Lamination - The Future of Auto Glass Technology A glass manufacturing process called lamination is at the center of new auto glass technology innovations such as the blocking of solar radiation, heated glass, embedded antennas and super-strong curved vehicle glass. The lamination process involves the "sandwiching" of two pieces of glass around a tough protective interlayer made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB ) using extreme heat and pressure. Laminated glass, used in every vehicle windshield today, is often called safety glass because of its primary benefit—the adhesion of glass fragments to the durable interlayer even after severe damage.
